We’re really excited to write this article. As kids, the most fun part about jumping on the trampoline was seeing what types of moves you could land. Some of our fondest memories came from playing with our friends and having everyone encourage each other that they could learn to perform a new trick.
Of course, some trampoline tricks are more difficult than others. One of the coolest trampoline moves is the double backflip. That’s something that’ll take a lot of practice, however, and it’s obviously a move that isn’t for beginners.
Whether you’re looking for trampoline tricks for beginners, or you’re just looking for easy trampoline moves that you can add to your arsenal today, you’re going to love our list of easy yet cool trampoline tricks below. Let’s get into it!
5 Easiest Trampoline Moves & Tricks
Before we get into all the moves, remember that there will always be an element of danger in performing any trampoline maneuvers. You should have a coach or other professional supervise you while performing these moves and if you choose to perform any of these moves you agree to do so at your own risk.
Also, be sure to check your trampoline’s user manual to ensure you don’t exceed the recommended weight limit or the number of jumpers allowed at one time. With that being said, let’s get into it!
Double Bounce
The double bounce is the most simple trampoline move we can think of. If you’re looking for an easy trampoline trick you can learn basically instantaneously, you’re looking for the double bounce.
To perform this move you’re going to need at least two jumpers and a trampoline that can accommodate them (check the product manual). Once you’ve got two willing participants, both of them need to get on the trampoline.
From there, both jumpers should begin jumping near the center of the trampoline. Then, have one partner land on the trampoline about half a second before the other partner.
This will cause the first partner to make the jumping pad sink under their weight. The first partner’s jump won’t be very special. The second partner, however, will enjoy the pent-up force of the jumping pad and get launched into the air!
The higher you go, the more fun you’re likely to have. Of course, higher bounces lead to a higher chance of injury as well. I remember that when I was about 9 or 10 years old I would double bounce with the neighbors and practically get launched into the clouds!
Feeling your stomach sink and being unsure of how you’re going to land can be exciting but it’s also dangerous.
The other point we’d like to mention is that there’s a reason we recommend you double bounce in the middle of the trampoline. For one, it helps increase the height of your bounces leading to more fun. More importantly, doing a double bounce in the middle of the trampoline is generally less dangerous because there’s a smaller chance you’ll fall off of the trampoline.
180/360/720/1080 Spins
As a kid, I remember being intimidated by front flips and backflips. I wasn’t so paralyzed that I’d to shy away from even attempting them, but I do remember them making me feel more nervous than doing almost anything else on a trampoline.
That’s why I can completely understand why some children don’t want to or aren’t allowed because of their parents to perform flips on the trampoline.
A nice alternative that feels almost as cool as a backflip is a spin. A spin is a move that’s fairly easy to perform. It’s a great trampoline move for beginners that don’t have experience in gymnastics because it’s performed essentially the same on a trampoline as it would be on any other surface.
We have two pieces of advice in performing this move. First, we’d recommend starting small. Don’t try to do a 720 (two full rotations) spin right away. Instead, start small. It’s not exciting, but by breaking the movement down into smaller pieces you’ll master it more quickly and be less likely to injure yourself.
Start with a 90-degree spin (quarter) until you’re comfortable with that basic movement. From there you can work yourself up to a 180-degree spin (half), and then eventually a 360 and beyond.
Apart from starting slow and working your way up, you may also find practicing spins on another surface to be beneficial as well. Practicing spins in the sand or another soft surface you’re familiar with can help you develop the confidence you’ll need to perform those movements properly on the trampoline.
Knee Drops
Knee drops are another easy trampoline trick that is child and beginner-friendly. This move is basically what it sounds like. You do small bounces on the trampoline, but then instead of landing on your feet you instead land on your knees and use the force of the trampoline to bounce back onto your feet.
While this movement isn’t super impressive visually, it can be fun to perform and is another fun way to bounce around your trampoline.
Back Drop
Have you ever done a trust fall with your friends? Someone falls backward and they put themselves in a vulnerable position with the belief that their friends will catch them. Trust falls are a lot of fun… Unless you have bad friends
A backdrop on the trampoline is a lot like a trust fall. The only difference is that with a backdrop you’re trusting the trampoline rather than your friends. Check out the video we’ve embedded above to quickly learn how to perform this cool trampoline trick for beginners.
Pike Jump
While the pike jump is a move for advanced beginners, it’s not something we’ve ever been able to perform particularly well. #PoorFlexibility
This cool trampoline move is pretty simple, however. You jump on the trampoline and attempt to bounce high. Once you’ve gotten some decent bounce height, you put your legs forward and attempt to touch your toes.
The benefit of this move is that it enables you to bounce pretty high and can look impressive to other beginner trampoline jumpers. Hopefully, you were able to understand, but if not, be sure to check out the video above for a clearer explanation.
Conclusion
We hope you enjoyed our list of easy trampoline tricks for beginners. Once you’ve mastered these moves you can move on to something more advanced like a backflip. Of course, before you perform any of these moves you’re going to need a trampoline. Be sure to check out our favorite trampolines here.
